In this activity you create a word cloud reflecting the contents of a film – using Wordle.

Preparation 10 minutes

  • Find a film that all in the group have seen and remember.
  • You can find and watch the trailer on Youtube.

Production 20 minutes

  • Each group member writes her/his own list of 10 words or more about the film. Write on a computer or by hand.
  • Collect all the words of the group.
  • Go to Wordle.net
  • Click on "Create" and enter the words in the textfield. If more persons have written the same word, write the word the number of times it is written.
  • Click on "Go".

  • Work with your Wordle and adjust it until you are satisfied with the expression. Experiment with colours, fonts, and form.
  • If you want to highlight words further write them more times and they will gradually grow bigger in your Wordle.
TIP

TIP: Use the sign ”~” between two words to connect them in your Wordle. E.g. Michael~Jackson.
Use the SHIFT button + ~ (PC) or Alt + ^/¨ (Mac).

 

 
  •  Print your Wordle or save it by making a screenshot.
TIP

TIP: To make a screendump use Alt + PrtScr (PC) or CMD + Shift + 4 and choose the area you want to print (Mac).

Presentation 15 minutes

Show your Wordle to other groups and see if they can identify the film you have chosen for your word cloud.

Are you satisfied with the contents and the look of your Wordle? Or should you try to improve it by making a new word cloud?
